How-To: Set up an HF portable radio while hiking

Fall is the perfect time for hiking, it\'s not too hot and not too cold. Last weekend I took a day trip to hike up High Mountain in New Jersey and activate SOTA summit W2/NJ008. It\'s really easy to set up an HF portable radio and not a whole lot to carry up the mountain. This video shows how to get set up including how to hang the antenna in a cluster of trees and making contact with Italy. http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/10/how_to_set_up_an_hf_portable_radio.html

The World of Amateur Radio-Amateur Radio Vintage Film

***** Van *****, Barry Goldwater, Arthur Godfrey and many others extol the virtues of amateur \"ham\" radio in this vintage film. I converted this old and somewhat damaged 16mm film to video tape many many years ago when the technology to do that was rather archaic. I have now converted those old video reels to digital movies. Not the best quality but still quite amusing.

Ham Radio MFJ-259B Antenna Analyzer Repair

In building the ham radio 40/80 meter inverted v antenna I ran into a slight set back. My SWR readings were very high and I first thought my antenna or cable to be bad. Fearing the worst I found the problem. A short circuit in the SO-239 connector in my MFJ-259B Antenna Analyzer. This is how I repaired it.
